American singer Nick Jonas has a history of penning musical tributes for his women: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Kate Hudson, Delta Goodrem, Olivia Culpo, Lily Collins, Georgia Fowler and Madeline Brewer. Will Priyanka Chopra be as 'lucky'?
If you thought singer Taylor Swift was the only one who kissed and told after breaking up with her boyfriends, you have another one coming. The Pardasi boy, Nick Jonas, who’s snagged Bollywood’s most eligible Desi girl, Priyanka Chopra, has quite a few hits under his belt that are inspired by his exes. So, check out all the tunes that Nick wrote for his former flames:
The wrecking ball singer Miley Cyrus and the youngest Jonas were a thing (and each other’s first kiss) many aeons ago. Their breakup and Miley’s following engagement to Aussie heartthrob Liam Hemsworth inspired Jonas to write Wedding Bells.
It started with Selena Gomez's appearance in his music video, Burnin’ Up, and ended up in a romantic relationship. Years later after the breakup, Jonas recently released Area Code hinting at Gomez with the lyric "You say I never been good for you. You can't deny I gave it good to you." Fans believe that these lines reference Selena’s single Good For You.
According to singer Rita Ora, the pair never dated and yes, the song is about her. Well, with lyrics such as ‘No need for water, Rita, you got the wine / Searching for diamonds, when I gave you the time’, it’s not really a mystery. In an interview, Ora said, “He never really told me that (of his feelings), I think, but regardless we're still friends and I still have a lot of respect for him.” Looks like a classic case of friend zoning to us.
Jonas and the former Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo dated for two years. And, the beauty queen has inspired most of his last album, Last Year Was Complicated. The track Champagne Problems is allegedly about breaking up over a glass of bubbly. “Champagne Problems is a song about sharing a bottle of champagne with my now ex as we were breaking up to kind of close that chapter,” the singer explained in a Reddit AMA.
Not only that, his hit song Jealous came about when Jonas saw other guys checking out his then-girlfriend, Olivia.
Nick claims the track Numb is about the past relationships that left him ‘so high and dry that I felt numb.’ Though this song may just be a shoutout to all of his exes, fans believe the track is about his 10-month long relationship with Australian singer Delta Goodrem.
Chainsaw came about when Jonas was holed up in his home up in Mammoth, California, and reminiscing about a former flame in 2016. Interestingly, he had spent a majority of the holiday season earlier that year with Kate Hudson in Mammoth. Jonas said during a Reddit AMA, "It's about walking back to the house you shared a lot of memories in with somebody. All the feelings that come with that, and kind of working through some of it, and I think that everyone has something in their life that they need to let go of, and Chainsaw represents that way of letting go.”
Plot twist: Months later, he also took out rumoured girlfriend, Lily Collins on a ski trip to Mammoth.
The JoBro has been usually tight-lipped about his ladies since breaking up with Culpo but did spill deets on his relationship with actor Lily Collins saying, “We went out a couple times. She is amazing.” According to media reports, though ‘Nick really likes Lily’ the fling fizzled out, which makes his track Voodoo a possible shoutout to the charming Collins.
Singer Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have found the perfect way to escape the friend zone. Lovato briefly dated Joe Jonas and ended up being besties with his younger brother Nick. Then, she put out the track Ruin The Friendship and Only Forever with a clear intent of moving out of the friend zone. She said in an interview, “Any time you send a song about the person, to the person, it's ballsy. It's like, 'Hey! Here's my feelings for you!... They knew, but neither of us had acknowledged before. And then it turned out that person had written a song about me, and we exchanged songs."
Well, according to Twitterati, Nick’s sultry number The Difference is an ode to Demi.
