Umang 2019: Mumbai Police praise ‘real unsung hero’ Akshay Kumar; Bollywood celebs steal the show

The annual Umang festival saw Bollywood cops ‘Simmba’ Ranveer Singh, ‘Singham’ Ajay Devgn and ‘Sooryavanshi’ Akshay Kumar kick off the fun and glam event which was held in Mumbai.

The annual entertainment extravaganza organised by the Mumbai Police for their friends and families, Umang 2019, saw the who’s who of Bollywood descending on the red carpet and giving powerhouse performances while saluting the spirit of Mumbai’s ‘Dabangg’ cops.

The reigning celebrities of B-Town performed to foot-tapping numbers and got the Khakhi-clad heroes moving and grooving along with them.

 

Guest of honour – Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Rajya Sabha MP and chairman, Zee & Essel Group, Subhash Chandra along with celebrities Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, Raveena Tandon, Yami Gautam, Sara Ali Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput amongst many others were present for the grand celebrations.

Apart from the magnificent performances and acts displayed by our favourite actors, ace director Rohit Shetty graced the evening along with Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh. The director and his trio of impeccable actors donated a sum of Rs 51 lakh to the Mumbai Police Foundation and expressed their gratitude towards them.

Mumbai police commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal thanked them and he also revealed an unknown fact about Akshay Kumar.

In his speech, he said, “There is a cancer ward in Naigaon and Akshay is the real unsung hero because he has contributed towards the renovation and took care of all the facilities there. Nobody, except we in the police were aware of this fact and I would like to thank him for this.”

Adding to this, Akshay said, “I can’t thank the cops enough for taking care of us the way they do and that is why we come here to celebrate and do things for them from our heart.”

Moreover, Akshay impressed the spectators with his power-packed entry when he jumped from the top of a building and hopped onto a police bike to enter the premises.

The evening also saw many celebrities set the stage ablaze with their rocking performances on popular Bollywood numbers.

While ‘Simmba’ Ranveer made a smashing entry on Ala Re Ala riding on a jeep, URI star Vicky expressed his ‘Josh’ by dancing to Dhayaanchand along with his co-star Taapsee Pannu. Amitabh Bachchan’s recitation left everyone teary-eyed while Ayushmann Khurana stole the show with his soulful voice.

Simbaa star Sara Ali Khan gave her first stage performance when she grooved to the beats of her popular tracks Sweetheart and Aankh Maare.
