Celebrating Maha Shivratri, devotees worldwide flocked to shrines to offer prayers, with notable figures like Hema Malini, Indian actress and BJP's Lok Sabha member from Mathura, making appearances. Malini was spotted in Ujjain, where she partook in the festivities, including visiting the Iskcon temple before the celebrations commenced. A video capturing her presence at the temple circulated widely on social media, depicting Malini adorned in a mustard saree as she performed aarti surrounded by devotees.
Hema Malini's multifaceted career spans acting, directing, producing, and politics. She has been a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2014, representing the Mathura constituency in the Lok Sabha. Notably, during the 1999 Lok Sabha elections in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Malini campaigned for BJP candidate Vinod Khanna, a former Bollywood actor.
Formally joining the BJP in February 2004, Malini's political journey saw her nominated by then-President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to serve as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009. She assumed the role of general secretary of the BJP in March 2010, with endorsement from Ananth Kumar, the party's national secretary, in February 2011.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Malini secured victory in Mathura, defeating incumbent Jayant Chaudhary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) by an impressive margin of 3,30,743 votes. Her commitment to both politics and spirituality, as evidenced by her participation in Maha Shivratri celebrations, continues to resonate with her admirers and constituents alike.
