Disney's film production chief Sean Bailey confirmed the news saying, "We want to bring in new energy and vitality."
Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean has become a cult character courtesy, actor Johnny Depp. However, it looks like the movie's reboot will be sans the 55-year-old actor.
The new reboot will be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese of Deadpool fame. Disney's film production chief Sean Bailey has confirmed the news saying, "We want to bring in new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with."
Depp has played the role in five films across 14 years, which have minted over USD 4.5 billion, making it the twelfth biggest franchise of all time. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise started in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Depp's last stint with the franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales told a sad tale of bad reviews and domestic disappointment, but it did make plenty of money overseas.
