There are countless women creators and artists in Indian film industry that are making waves on a global stage, let’s read about some of them today.

Indian women in the entertainment industry have been making a mark in the world cinema for decades. 2024 also has been a year of achievements. Deepika Padukone was celebrated by ‘Deadline Hollywood’ as a major force in shaping future global cinema and was given a spot on their 'Global Disruptors 2024' list. Actresses Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt have been pivotal in making a notable impact in international cinema. There are countless Indian women creators in Indian film industry that are making waves on a global stage, let’s read about some of them today. 

At the Cannes Film Festival, Anasuya Sengupta and Payal Kapadia received top honours. Guneet Monga made history as a young producer by winning two Academy Awards. Despite numerous challenges, Monga chose to follow an unconventional path to success. Her work focuses on telling powerful stories through documentaries and independent films rather than conforming to mainstream Bollywood.

Rohini Hattangadi

At 31 years old, Rohini Hattangadi became the first Indian actress to win the prestigious BAFTA Award for her role in Lord Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ (1982). It was significant leap from her earlier work primarily in Marathi theatre and minor film roles.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra’s success in ‘Quantico’ opened doors for other Hollywood projects, leading to her memorable role as the antagonist in ‘Baywatch’ (2017), where she starred alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Zac Efron. In 2021, she reached a new height in her Hollywood career with a role in the film ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, sharing the screen with iconic actor Keanu Reeves.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt captured the spotlight at the iconic Met Gala, where she made a stunning appearance in May 2024. She has delivered critically acclaimed performances in films such as ‘Raazi’, ‘Gully Boy’, and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. Her role in ‘Raazi’ earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Alia Bhatt made her Hollywood debut with the film ‘Heart of Stone,’ starring alongside Gal Gadot. 

Deepika Padukone

With her impressive achievements in the entertainment industry, Deepika Padukone continues to be a formidable force in global cinema. She has appeared on top American TV talk shows, including ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ and ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’. She was immensely praised for her successful role in the Hollywood film ‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage (2017)’. She also had the distinct honour of presenting at the 2022 Academy Awards.
