Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya recently came forward and made bold claims about the racism running deep in the Indian film industry. He opened up about his struggle of getting positive roles due to his skin colour and how dark-skinned people are often cast in negative roles.

Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya recently commented about racism and how deep it runs in not just society but also the Indian Cinema. He came forward and talked about how dark-skinned people are cast as villains or bad people the majority of the time and it is solely because of the colour of their skin. He believes that dark-skinned actors have a hard time finding positive roles in the film business. Many dark-skinned actors are pushed aside and type-casted due to the racism in the industry.

Dibyendu highlighted the inclusion and casting of people from all races in Western media and how India is going backwards by only casting dark-skinned people for a stereotypical bad guy role. "I think Indians have become very racist. The racism outside of India is very clear but they want to get out of it. They are embarrassed of their racism. It is a global issue," he said.

He gave an example of Lord Krishna portrayed by a fair-skinned actor in Indian Cinema even though Lord Krishna is described as dark-skinned in the historical descriptions. Dibyendu said "I was once watching a show called Shri Krishna on TV. And they cast a fair-skinned man as Krishna and I thought this is their talent that they have made Krishna fair-skinned."

Bhattacharya also talked about his love for acting and how he does not aspire to star in a big commercial  500 crore film as he does not offer these types of roles. Instead, he will work on his art and dedicate it to good films and roles. Currently, Dibyendu is working on his upcoming Netflix project, “IC814”. He has been a part of many projects like Dev D., Mission Raniganj, Rocket Boys, Undekhi, Poacher, and many more.
