Former FTII chairman Anupam Kher didn't have a team for 11 months

According to a Hindustan Times report, the government did not nominate other members of the society that would constitute the governing council (GC) and academic council (AC). Hence, Kher was without a team for almost 11 months and solely responsible for everything happening at the FTII

Mumbai: Anupam Kher took charge from Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on October 11, 2017 and a year since, the actor has already put in his resignation.

The actor cited his ‘busy schedule’ as the reason behind cutting short his three-year tenure.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the government did not nominate other members of the society that would constitute the governing council (GC) and academic council (AC). Hence, Kher was without a team for almost 11 months and solely responsible for everything happening at the FTII.

It was only in September this year that film producer BP Singh was appointed as vice-chairman of GC and director Raju Hirani, cinematographer Mahesh Aney among others as non-official members of the council.

Actor-director Satish Kaushik was called on to fill the shoes of vice-president of FTII society while BP Singh also played chairman of AC in a meeting chaired by Kher.

FTII director, Bhupendra Kainthola, confirmed, “Even as Anupam Kher resigned as FTII chairman, the society, governing council and academic council will remain intact. The government will only have to appoint a new head for the institute.”

He added, “On Tuesday, he presided over the first-ever meeting of FTII’s standing finance committee, society and governing council in Mumbai and also approved the new academic council. With this, the functional architecture of FTII, the country’s premier film education centre, is now in place.”
