Ek Je Chhilo Raja is based on the book Princely Imposter by Partha Chatterjee. The book deals with the sensational Bhawal sanyasi court case of 1921. It is a 16-year long legal battle about the mysterious return of the second prince of the Bhawal Estate, Raja Mahendra Kumar Chowdhury, 12 years after his death.
The trailer starts with a courtroom sequence in black and white and later reveals the plot in all shades. The trailer, set to the Rabindranath Tagore song Maharaj E Ki Saaje, then goes into a flashback about the prince’s life.
