Sarkar controversy: Director AR Murugadoss moves Madras high court, seeks anticipatory bail

Sarkar director AR Murugadoss has sought anticipatory bail after police visited his house on Thursday night. According to sources, the petition will be heard at the court today afternoon. 
 

Chennai: Ever since Vijay's film hit the theatres on November 6, Sarkar has been grabbing headlines. First, because the movie entered Rs 100 crore club in just 2 days and the other is the controversy the film has been embroiled in since it's release. 

On Thursday night, it was rumoured that the director of the movie AR Murugadoss was going to be arrested. However, he took to Twitter to share that police personnel had visited his house for protection. “Police had come to my house late tonight and banged the door several times. Since I was not there, they left the premises. Right now I was told there is no police outside my house,” he wrote.

Now, the latest update is that Murugadoss has filed a petition with the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. According to sources, the petition will be heard at the court today afternoon.

A complaint was also filed with the Chennai city police commissioner, demanding action against Murugadoss under section 124A (Sedition) of the IPC, for insulting the government of Tamil Nadu.
 
Senior leaders of the AIADMK government pushed the makers of Sarkar to remove controversial scenes from the film as it criticises the government. State ministers CV Shanmugam and Kadambur C Raju had objected to scenes showing the state government giving away mixer grinders to voters and people burning pre-election freebies, besides a number of dialogues critical of the government.

Members of the party also protested outside cinema halls and attacked a few theatres in Madurai, Chennai and Tiruvannamalai. 

Following this, Theatre Association president Tirupur Subramaniam informed that the production house Sun Pictures has agreed to remove the said controversial scenes in the film. 
Directed by Murugadoss, Sarkar is a political thriller flick starring Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles.
