Singer Chinmayi Sripada also pointed out that no action was taken against president of the South India Cine and Television Artistes and Dubbing Artist Union, actor Radha Ravi

Chennai: In October, singer Chinmayi had raised complaints of sexual abuse against Tamil film industry’s popular lyricist Vairamuthu and actor Radha Ravi.

However, the singer seems to have paid a heavy price for sharing her #MeToo story as she has now been expelled from the South India Cine and Television Artistes and Dubbing Artist Union. The organisation claims that she was expelled for non-payment of the subscription fees for the past 2 years. However, a prior notice for the expulsion was not given to the singer.

The termination means that she can no longer work in the Tamil industry as a dubbing artist. She took to Twitter on Saturday to respond to the decision of the union saying that though she has not paid subscription fees for two years, the union continued to take 10% of her income fro dubbing assignments.

She also shared that she was aware that her career would end is she spoke about the abuse.

Chinmayi also questioned the fact that Radha Ravi continues to be the president of the union in spite of the allegations levelled against him. Explaining the scenario, Ravi said that the singer was not part of the union for the past two years and was only allowed to work in the industry as she was a popular singer.

Chinmayi has been a dubbing artist in the Tamil industry for the past 10 years. Her recent work has been for the movie 96, which is still running successfully in the theatres.

A similar action was taken by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists on the actor, who had filed a rape case on actor Dileep last year.
