Vivek Oberoi reflects on challenges shooting 'Saathiya' with Rani Mukerji, citing budget constraints and security issues, yet celebrating its eventual success

Vivek Oberoi recently reflected on his experiences shooting the acclaimed film 'Saathiya,' which also featured Rani Mukerji in a leading role. Despite its eventual success, Oberoi revealed that the project initially faced skepticism, with many advising him against taking on a romantic role due to his action-hero image. Even his mentor, Ram Gopal Varma, expressed displeasure at his decision. However, Oberoi was undeterred, expressing his love for the film and his trust in director Shaad Ali, who happened to be a school friend.

During the filming of 'Saathiya' in 2002, Oberoi recounted the challenges the production faced, particularly due to budget constraints. He mentioned instances of sleeping on railway station benches and changing clothes in restaurant toilets due to the lack of a makeup van. Despite the difficulties, the team pushed through long shooting hours, often filming up to four scenes a day for 18-20 hours. Oberoi even found himself reverting to his assistant days, carrying equipment on set.

Regarding security measures, Oberoi recalled heightened attention from fans, especially after the release of his debut film 'Company,' where he played the character 'Chandu Bhai.' This led to a significant increase in fans visiting the 'Saathiya' set, prompting Oberoi to depart in a police van to ensure his safety.
