Mangeshkar also pointed out that changes were made to the old song without the consent of the original composers and writers
While your night out on the dancefloor may feel incomplete without the regular Bollywood remixes of old Hindi songs, veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar isn't really feeling this trend. In an interview with IANS, Mangeshkar said she does not want to hear the remixed version. She said, “This trend of remixing old songs saddens me. Where is the creativity in simply lifting acknowledged, beloved classics and shuffling the notes around?”
The song in question is the classic number Chalte Chalte, Yun Hi Koi Mil Gaya Tha from Pakeezah (1972) that was composed by Ghulam Mohammed and sung by Mangeshkar herself. However, the remixed version of the song is sung by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam and the music composition is credited to Tanishk Bagchi.
This also hasn't sat down well with the singer, she says, "I've even heard that the lyrics are changed in the remixes. By whose consent? The original poets and composers wrote what they had to. Nobody has the right to tamper with the creativity of these great composers and lyricists." And it seems she isn't alone in this, singer and BJP MP Babul Supriyo, singer Alka Yagnik also came forward to tweet their support. "Chalo humaare gaanon ke saath ye zulm kartey hain (They do this with our songs)... but their audacity is increasing by the day. Now they've started doing this to Lata Didi's song as well," said Yagnik.
