Renowned sitarist Anoushka Shankar is set to receive an Honorary Degree from the University of Oxford. This prestigious honor will be conferred upon her on June 19 during the university's annual Encaenia academic ceremony. Anoushka will be part of a cohort of six recipients, which includes Warren East, Sir Demis Hassabis, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sir Michael Palin, and Professor Salim Yusuf.
Expressing her gratitude, Anoushka Shankar thanked the University of Oxford and her past teachers for this significant achievement. Her musical journey has been marked by several milestones, including a remarkable presence in the Grammy Awards arena. Anoushka was the first Indian woman ever nominated and the youngest nominee in the World Music Category for her album "Live At Carnegie Hall" in 2002. Over the years, she has garnered eight additional nominations and performed at the ceremony twice.

Anoushka Shankar's musical prowess can be traced back to her extensive training under her father, the legendary sitarist Ravi Shankar. Beginning her sitar tutelage at the age of nine, she made her debut on stage at thirteen and released her first album, "Anoushka," in 1998, followed by five more studio albums.
