Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt turns Good Samaritan by helping illuminate 40 huts with solar lamps in the Kikkeri village in Mandya district of Karnataka state.
Alia Bhatt's initiative - 'Mi Wardrobe is Su Wardrobe' was started by her in May at the Stylecracker Night Market, through which her fans could buy handpicked favourites from her closet, for charity. The dresses are which she wore on special occasions and ones that she picks for movie shoots.
Alia, with the help of an electrical appliance firm, joined for a special cause to illuminate 40 huts with solar lamps and five street lights, making a difference to the lives of about 200 people. The people of Kikkeri village in Mandya, Karnataka, saw lights in their houses at night for the first time in their lives.
Alia and a Bengaluru based organisation called AROHA came together for this noble cause. Co-owner of AROHA, Pankaj Dixit said, "Members of my organisation saw the residents of this village under darkness. Our team coordinated with Alia Bhatt's NGO COEXIST to help the villagers."
Explaining the situation of the village and how Alia's NGO came into the picture, Dixit said, "This is a small community of about 40 households who have been living in small thatched houses for more than 25 years and they are living without electricity. At the same time, COEXIST, an initiative by Alia Bhatt contacted us and when we told them about this project, they readily agreed to help."
