A week after joining YSR Congress, actor-producer Mohan Babu has been sentenced to one year jail by Erramanzil Court and imposed a fine of Rs 41.75 lakhs.

Hyderabad: Former Rajya Sabha member and recent addition to YSR Congress, actor Mohan Babu has been sentenced to one year jail by Erramanzil Court. Apart from the sentence, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 41.75 Lakhs for the Collection King in a case involving bounced cheques.

A case for cheque bounce had been filed by filmmaker YVS Chowdary, who had directed Mohan Babu's son Manchu Vishnu's movie Saleem in 2010. The movie was released in 2009. The veteran actor had paid the filmmaker with a cheque of Rs 40.50 lakh.

However, the bank returned the cheque citing insufficient funds in the account. Though Babu did assure Chowdary of the payment, he failed to pay the amount leaving him with no choice but to take the matter to court. The court has accused Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures as A1 while Mohan Babu as A2. After hearing and arguments, the court found fault in Mohan Babu's side and the Errum Manzil 23rd court judge V Raghunadha Rao delivered the verdict today.
