World leaders shower PM Narendra Modi with congratulatory messages as NDA heads towards victory

The BJP is all set for a clean sweep in the recently-contested Lok Sabha election. From Israeli PM to Afghanistan President, leaders have taken to social media to heap congratulatory praise over Modi.

Riding on a massive Modi wave sweeping through most parts of India, the BJP was set to return to power on Thursday as it is leading in 292 seats while the Congress is trailing far behind with 51, according to trends released by the Election Commission for all 542 seats that went to polls.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Thursday is the first world leader to congratulate his counterpart Narendra Modi for scripting an "impressive victory" in the general elections and vowed to strengthen their "great friendship" as well as bilateral ties.

"Greetings from the depth of my heart dear friend on your impressive victory in the elections," Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew and Hindi.

"The election results are a re-approval of your leadership and the way you lead the world's greatest democracy. Together we will continue to strengthen the great friendship between us and India and Israel and lead it to new heights," he tweeted.

Renil Wickremesinghe, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka took to Twitter to congratulate his Indian compatriot Narendra Modi after poll results began showing a staggering victory for the Indian Prime Minister in the recently-elected Lok Sabha polls.

Next up to take to social media to heap congratulatory praise over Modi is Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli. Russia's President Vladimir Putin too sent a congratulatory telegram to Modi in connection "with the convincing victory of the BJP at the general Parliamentary elections".

China's Xi Jinping and Japanese PM Shinzō Abe too congratulated PM Narendra Modi in two separate telephonic conversations.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani tweeted, "Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a strong mandate from the people of India. The government & the people of Afghanistan look forward to expanding cooperation between our two democracies."
