Guwahati: Former Meghalaya chief minister and senior Congress leader Mukul Sangma is likely to be the grand old party’s candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress is yet to announce its candidate for the Tura constituency, but the party officials said that Mukul is likely to be the candidate.
On the other hand, former Union minister Agatha K Sangma, younger sister of Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, will contest from the Tura seat.

Five parties of the six-party ruling alliance in Meghalaya had already announced to jointly field Agatha from Tura.
The ruling alliance Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) comprises of the National People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSDP), the BJP and the independents, and the five parties have taken a decision to jointly field Agatha.
The five parties of the MDA have also decided to jointly field Jemino Mawthoh of UDP from Shillong.
Meghalaya CM and NPP president Conrad said that the NPP will contest maximum seats in the north eastern region.
“The MDA have unanimously taken decision to field its common candidates in both Tura and Shillong seats,” Conrad said.
Both candidates of Tura and Shillong will contest on symbols of their own party’s.
Meanwhile, the BJP will separately field its candidate for Tura and Shillong seats in Meghalaya.
A top leader of the saffron party in Meghalaya said that the party has prepared a list of four probable candidates for both Tura and Shillong constituencies and the Meghalaya BJP has already forwarded the names to the party’s central committee and the names are – Digross D Shira, Rikman G Momin, KC Boro and Thomas Marak.
