Earlier, the Election Commission's spokesperson Sheyphali Sharan had said, “Once the model code of conduct comes in force, the Commission will take the strictest action in such cases, if the instructions are violated.”
This was when political banners bearing Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's portrait along with the photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were clicked and circulated on social media. The Congress and many of its leaders were in the forefront to cry foul. But now the tables have turned.
