Congress's V Shruti Devi, the daughter of Telugu Desam Party's candidate V Kishore Chandra Deo is fielded against her father in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Andhra Pradesh.
Amaravathi: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader V Kishore Chandra Deo will be facing his daughter V Shruti Devi in the Araku (ST) constituency of Andhra Pradesh during the first phase of Lok Sabha election, which is all set to be held on April 11.
Congress's V Shruti Devi is fielded against her father V Kishore Chandra Deo of the TDP.
Deo, who has been a Lok Sabha member for six terms, joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) recently, severing his four-decade-old bond with the Congress.
The Congress fielded Deo's daughter Shruti as its candidate from the same seat that Deo lost in 2014.
Shruti, a practising lawyer, recalled that she worked for her father and the Congress for many years.
Speaking to reporters after filing her nomination, Shruthi said, "It is in recognition of my services that the Congress gave me the ticket."
Shruti did not speak anything about fighting her father in the election, but exuded confidence that she would win.
Speaking to MyNation, TDP state treasurer Prem Kumar Jain said, "The reason behind Kishore Chandra Deo quitting the Congress and joining the TDP was because of the people. The people want to see who is the right candidate for the CM and PM post. People of Andhra Pradesh want to see Chandrababu Naidu as their chief minister again. The Congress did not help Andhra Pradesh to get special status. It was Chandrababu Naidu, who stood for it. Let Congress field anyone from their party, be it Shruthi or anybody else. In the end, it is TDP that will win the election with a good lead."
Meanwhile, TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited Vizianagaram on Thursday and began to campaign for the father in Andhra Pradesh.
