A couple brutally assaulted a stray dog with an iron rod, resulting in multiple fractures to the animal's leg, stirring outrage in Lucknow. Vijay Kumar Upadhyay, a resident known for his compassionate care of stray animals in the colony, filed a complaint that prompted local authorities to swiftly take action after a disturbing event unfolded in the Indira Nagar area on Sunday.
Upadhyay alleged that Shukla and his wife had been hostile toward the presence of stray dogs in the area, often objecting to Upadhyay's efforts to feed them. Upadhyay alleged that Shukla had even threatened to harm the stray dogs during a previous encounter. On the day of the incident, the couple allegedly armed themselves with iron rods and began chasing the dogs away from the colony.
The situation escalated when the couple targeted one of the canines, repeatedly striking its leg with the iron rod, causing severe fractures. Upadhyay recounted the horrifying ordeal, stating that the couple not only assaulted the dog but also issued threats against him, vowing to eliminate all stray dogs from the colony.
In response to the complaint, the police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. SHO Vikas Rai of Ghazipur (Indira Nagar) confirmed that the accused has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC 429 for mischief by killing or maiming animals, IPC 506 for criminal intimidation, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
"We are conducting a probe," stated SHO Vikas Rai. "We are examining CCTV footage from the area and will obtain statements from both parties involved before taking further action."
Animal rights activists and concerned citizens alike have condemned the incident and are demanding justice for the innocent animal subjected to such cruelty. Many have urged authorities to ensure the safety of stray animals in the colony and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The plight of the injured stray dog has ignited a wave of sympathy and support, with many offering assistance to cover the medical expenses necessary for its recovery. Amidst the outrage, there is a glimmer of hope as the community rallies together to seek justice and stand up against such egregious acts of violence towards animals.
