Manchester: India were dealt a huge blow during their ICC World Cup 2019 match against Pakistan as paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out of the remainder of the contest at Old Trafford on Sunday (June 16).
Bhuvneshwar limped off the ground after bowling just 2.4 overs for eight runs. The Indian team management later provided an update on the paceman’s injury and said he has tightness in his left hamstring and he will not take further part in the match.

Vijay Shankar, playing in his first World Cup match, completed Bhuvneshwar’s over. He struck with his first ball, trapping Imam-ul-Haq LBW as Pakistan were in pursuit of 337. Earlier, India posted 336/5 in 50 overs with Rohit Sharma scoring 140 and there were half centuries from captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
After he went out of the field, Bhuvneshwar was attended by Indian team’s physio Patrick Farhart.

This is the second injury worry for India as Shikhar Dhawan is already out with a thumb fracture. Shikhar was hit on his left thumb by a Pat Cummins delivery in the game against Australia. Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is already in England as a cover for the left-hander opening batsman.
If Bhuvneshwar fails to recover in time for India’s next game, Mohammed Shami may play. So far, Shami has not played in any of the four games at the World Cup. India’s next match is on June 22, against Afghanistan.
