‘Dressing room feels calm’: Virat Kohli heaps praise on Hanuma Vihari after India whitewash West Indies

Kingston (Jamaica): India captain Virat Kohli heaped praise on batsman Hanuma Vihari for his maiden century and fifty in the second Test against the West Indies here.

India completed a 2-0 clean sweep over the Caribbean side on Monday (September 2) to top the ICC World Test Championship table with 120 points. Vihari won the Man-of-the-match award. The visitors had won the first Test in North Sound.

In the first innings, Vihari scored his maiden Test ton and had dedicated to his late father. After the match, Kohli was effusive in his praise for the right-hander. Vihari was the top run-getter of the two-match series with 289 runs.

"Hanuma was the stand-out batsman in this game. According to the surface, it was a top class innings from him. He is someone who is sure of his game and it shows. The dressing room feels calm when he's batting. That's a quality he possesses naturally," Kohli said.

"He (Hanuma) is willing to improve. He accepts and corrects his mistakes and plays with a lot of heart. Always up to do anything for the team. It's a very young career so far but he's shown why he's been backed and selected in this team," he added.

Completing the match inside four days, Kohli credited the team for playing “good cricket” over all the four days at Sabina Park. India won by 257 runs as the West Indies were bowled out for 210 while chasing an improbable 468.

"It was pretty comprehensive again. Played really good cricket over four days. Getting result in manner that you want is crucial. We were in some tricky situations. Took a lot of character from the boys collectively," Kohli, who became the most successful Indian Test captain with 28 wins, said.

It was a successful tour for India as they had earlier won the T20I (3-0) and ODI series (2-0) too.
