Bengaluru: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar paid rich tributes to teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day today (September 5).
The 46-year-old Tendulkar took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to hail the role of teachers and mentioned about his first coach Ramakant Achrekar.

“Teachers impart not just education but also values. Achrekar Sir taught me to play straight - on the field and in life. I shall always remain grateful to him for his immeasurable contribution in my life. His lessons continue to guide me today. #TeachersDay,” Tendulkar tweeted to his 30 million-plus followers.

In 2014, Tendulkar, after releasing his autobiography “Playing It My Way”, had handed over the first copy of the book to his coach Achrekar, who was present at the function in Mumbai.

“I would like to present the first copy after launch to somebody very special in my life,” Tendulkar, who played in a record 200 Tests, said after presenting the book to Achrekar, who was in a wheelchair.
Last year, Tendulkar had recalled how Achrekar was strict but also caring and loving.
"Coaches, gurus are like our parents, because we end up spending so much time with them, we learn so many things from them," Tendulkar had said in February, 2018.
"(Achrekar) Sir was strict at times, extremely strict and also caring and loving. Sir did not say well-played to me ever, (but) I knew (when) Sir has taken me to have bhel-puri or paani-puri, Sir is happy, I have done something nice on the field," he said.
"I was a naughty child, difficult to manage.... I was extremely lucky to have a balanced family, my father who was always extremely calm, who never got angry, agitated, and so did my mother...they gave me freedom, pampered me, but never spoiled me. When the situation demanded to be firm they were firm," Tendulkar added.
Achrekar passed away in January this year at the age of 87.
