Mumbai: Former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev has heaped praise on the country’s fast bowlers and he believes they have “changed the face of Indian cricket”.
"Do I have to say that? You should not even ask about it. The type of pace attack we have now, has not been seen ever for an Indian team. Without any doubt, in the last four to five years, fast bowlers have changed the face of Indian cricket," Kapil told reporters at an event in Mumbai on Thursday (October 10).

Pacemen Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and others have consistently delivered for India.
With India playing South Africa in the ongoing second Test in Pune, 60-year-old Kapil was asked whether it was right to drop Hanuma Vihari for Umesh Yadav. The legendary all-rounder refused to make any comment on the selection issue.

"It is not my place to comment on it. It is up to the selectors to decide. I think people like us should not just say that the selectors have done a wrong job. The selectors have been given a job and they are responsible people. I hope whatever they are trying will come out good for the country," Kapil, who played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs, said.
Kapil, who was part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that picked Ravi Shastri as India coach, also praised India’s bench strength.
"If your main players are not playing, like (Jasprit) Bumrah is not there, Hardik Pandya is not there, Kuldeep (Yadav) is not there, still you have enough bench strength, and it will give you confidence for sure. India can have two playing XI's and it can hamper the morale of the opposition," Kapil said.
About MS Dhoni’s future, Kapil said the former skipper should himself take a call or the selectors should decide.
"That is his (Dhoni's) call. How can we say anything about his future? He has to take a call or the selectors have to have to take a call. He is such a great cricketer," Kapil said.
