Janta Curfew over coronavirus: Cricketers react to PM Modi’s appeal to nation

Indian cricketers including captain Virat Kohli have reacted to PM Narendra Modi's appeal to observe 'Janta Curfew' on March 22 due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19)

Bengaluru: Indian cricketers including national team’s captain Virat Kohli reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to citizens to observe “Janta Curfew” on March 22 (Sunday) to fight against coronavirus (COVID-19).

In his address to the nation on Thursday night (March 19), PM Modi asked all Indians to not come out of their houses. He also urged them to stay indoors from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday to observe “Janta Curfew”.

This appeal received positive responses from Indians and cricketers too hailed PM Modi’s “Janta Curfew”. Kohli, team’s head coach Ravi Shastri, opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan, paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar and several others took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to ask Indians to follow “Janta Curfew”.

Kohli wrote, “Be alert, attentive and aware to combat the threat posed by the Covid 19. We, as responsible citizens, need to adhere to the norms put in place for our safety as announced by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi  ji. #IndiaFightsCorona (sic).”

He added, “Also, special mention to all the medical professionals in the country and around the globe for all the efforts being put in to fight the #CoronaVirus. Let's support them by taking care of ourself and everybody around us by maintaining good personal hygeine. #IndiaFightsCorona (sic).”
