ICC has clarified that T20 World Cup 2020 won't be postponed and preparations are under way in Australia. Also, ICC spoke about the election to pick the next chairman, replacing Shashank Manohar
Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday (May 27) dismissed reports of postponement of T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia as “inaccurate”.
There were reports in the media that the global T20 event would be postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The reports said in the October-November window IPL 2020 could be held.

Now, cricket’s world governing body has put to rest all those speculative reports. ICC issued a statement on T20 World Cup and said it is planning for the event.
“…reports of a postponement of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2020 are inaccurate and planning for the event continues whilst a number of contingency plans are being explored in light of the rapidly changing public health situation caused by the COVID 19 virus,” ICC said in a media release.

Also, ICC said the election process to choose the next chairman was not yet decided and would be discussed on Thursday (May 28) during the ICC Board meeting. The current ICC chairman Shashank Manohar has said he won’t seek extension.
Former cricketers David Gower and Graeme Smith have supported BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to replace Manohar. However, Ganguly has not said anything so far.
“The ICC Board met yesterday (May 26) to discuss the process for electing the next Chair of the ICC. No final decision was taken regarding the election process and the subject will be discussed further at the next ICC Board meeting on Thursday. The existing Chair confirmed he was not seeking any extension to his term but would support the Board to ensure a smooth transition,” ICC said.
