Happy birthday Ravi Shastri: Virat Kohli leads wishes for ‘brave’ India head coach

Birthday wishes poured in on social media as India's head coach Ravi Shastri turned 58 today (May 27)

Bengaluru: Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri turned 58 today (May 27) and birthday wishes poured in for the former all-rounder, on social media with captain Virat Kohli sharing a special tweet.

Shastri was born in Bombay (now Mumbai) on May 27, 1962. He played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for India between 1981 and 1992. He was part of India’s 1983 World Cup winning squad. He is the first Indian batsman to hit six sixes in an over. After his retirement from the game, he became a TV commentator. In 2017, he replaced Anil Kumble as India’s head coach.

Under Shastri’s guidance, the Kohli-led India reached No. 1 position in the ICC Test rankings. Kohli and Shastri share a special relationship. They have mutual respect for each other. Shastri has always maintained that as the skipper of the national team, Kohli is the “boss” and the coaching staff is there to prepare the team.

On Wednesday (May 27), Kohli tweeted a picture where he can he seen sharing a laugh with Shastri and former captain MS Dhoni. Kohli wrote, “Many seem confident but only few are brave. Happy birthday Ravi bhai. God bless. #throwback (sic).”
