Cyclone Amphan: Shah Rukh Khan's IPL team KKR extends helping hand to Bengal

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) said they will contribute to West Bengal chief minister's relief fund and also will help those affected by Cyclone Amphan

Kolkata: Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced various initiatives including contribution to West Bengal chief minister’s relief fund to help those affected by Cyclone Amphan.

“KKR along with Meer Foundation announced several initiatives to support the ongoing efforts of the (West Bengal) Government to battle the aftermath of (Cyclone) Amphan,” KKR said in a statement.

“Kolkata Knight Riders has committed to contributing to the fund (West Bengal chief minister’s relief fund),” it added.

The franchise’s ‘KKR Sahayata Vahan’ will cater to multiple locations across West Bengal and help distribute essential kits to people affected especially in  satellite towns/districts.

KKR’s ‘Plant A 6 Campaign’, under the leadership of Juhi Chawla Mehta, has worked over the years in planting trees in Kolkata. Now, the IPL franchise has pledged to plant and replenish the 5,000 trees that were lost in the cyclone over a period of time.

Announcing these initiatives Venky Mysore, CEO & MD, KKR, said, “The State of West Bengal and the city of joy have been special to us in many ways. The people of Kolkata and WB have embraced KKR and extended their love and unconditional support over the years. This is a small effort on our part to provide some relief to those affected.”

KKR, co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, have won the IPL title twice (2012 and 2014). This year’s IPL has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
