The force behind Camlin's success passed away on July 15, 2024, in Mumbai. He was 86 years old.

The beloved Subhash Dandekar passed away on July 15, 2024, leaving his family and millions of fans heartbroken. He has played a significant role in the transformation of the Camlin Group of Industries into a global brand. Camlin was founded by two brothers named D. P. Dandekar and G. P. Dandekar in 1931. Under Subhash Dandekar's leadership, the company was sold to Japan's Kokuyo, and Subhash managed the position of chairman emeritus of Kokuyo Camlin.

Shubhash Dandekar passes away in Mumbai 

The force behind Camlin's success passed away on July 15, 2024, in Mumbai. He was 86 years old. Shubhash's body was cremated in Central Mumbai on July 15. His family has organized a condolence meeting on July 18 for close friends and loved ones. 

Shubhash Dandekar's contribution to Camlin's success

Initially, the company was named Dandekar & Co. when it was established. The company only sold stationery items in its early days. Under Shubhash's leadership in 1960, the company expanded from just stationery to art supplies and high-quality school supplies. Along with diversifying the brand, Shubhash also renamed the company Camlin. In 1988, the company was officially called Camlin Ltd. 

In 2011, Japan's Kokuyo obtained more than 50% stakes in the company, giving Camlin a push in the global market and making it available in different countries. 

Shubhash Dandekar served as President of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MACCIA) 

Dandekar also served as the President of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (MACCIA) from 1990 to 1992. The current president of MACCIA, Lalit Gandhi, talked about how, during India's transformation into an open economy, Shubhash played a crucial role and led the MACCIA effectively. Lalit also revealed that Shubhash took charge and educated several traders on behalf of MACCIA about the new changes and challenges.
