Prerna Arora has been on the frontlines of supporting films and projects that have been socially relevant and out-of-the-box ever since she started her journey as a producer.
The Indian film industry has always been male-centric and male-dominated since its beginning. Very few women have been able to push through the barriers and create a solid space in the business for themselves.
Even today, several take a back step when they have to support a women-led film or project in Bollywood. However, things are changing; slowly but surely, women are taking charge now, telling the stories that they want to tell and reaching the audience.
The shift was felt when actresses like Kriti Sanon and Alia Bhatt started taking on roles they wanted, sparking debates on pay differences in the industry. Other female filmmakers, such as Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Guneet Monga, and Prerna Arora, supported their message and journey. However, the old ways of gender disparity and differences are still there.
Talking about the gender disparity and her experience in the industry Prerna Arora said, "We have come a long way but even today, women-led films continue to receive unequal treatment in terms of resources and support as compared to big-budgeted films that are led by heroes. However, I'd like to see the greener side. There was a time when film sets didn't have a single female, today, at least 30-50% of the crew are women. More females are telling their stories,”
“See how 'Crew' performed! That wouldn't have happened a few years ago. If I talk about myself, I'd say I am doing more than surviving. In fact, I am thriving in a male-dominated industry. I am creating opportunities for myself, collaborating with the best people to be with in the industry, and the same I am seeing for my contemporaries. So, yes, even if there's a long way to go, we've reached half way," she added.
Prerna Arora has been on the frontlines of supporting films and projects that have been socially relevant and out-of-the-box ever since she started her journey as a producer. She has some great films, such as 'Padman', 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', and Rustom, under her name. Prerna is now thrilled about the release of her upcoming films, 'Hero Heeroine' and 'Dunk: Once Bitten Twice Shy," which will hit theaters soon.
