Kareena highlighted that their father, Randhir Kapoor was extremely supportive however, he was against the idea of calling people to ask favours for her daughter.
Talented actress Kareena Kapoor is the granddaughter of legendary actor Raj Kapoor. He is known as one of the trailblazers of Indian cinema. Kareena and her sister Karisma ruled the 90s and are still going strong. In a recent interview, Kareena Kapoor opened up about Karisma's struggles and how she resurrected the Kapoor family name in the industry.
Kareena highlighted that their father, Randhir Kapoor was extremely supportive however, he was against the idea of calling people to ask favours for her daughter. In a candid interview with The Week, Kareena talked about the initial years being difficult for Karisma "because it was like the first time anybody from the family… because my mum (Babita) had to stop working, Neetu (Kapoor) aunty stopped working but I think that was also a brink of… not rebellion… but just a brink of where I think our parents’ mindset was also changing.”
It is known that women from the Kapoor family did not initially work in the industry. Raj Kapoor's daughters also did not work in the films. The daughter-in-laws in the family also stopped working once they got married. Karisma was the first woman from the Kapoor family who got out and worked in the film industry.
Kareena said that when Karisma started her career "a lot of our family members were more accepting.”
“My mum was very supportive to my sister and she was like ‘I want you to do what you want to do and strangely at that time, my father, who people actually think, would be like ‘no, don’t do this’, he said, ‘if you want to do this, you must try on your own and figure it out. I am not going to help you in any which way'", she said.
“It’s not that because you come from this legacy, there’s a 100 percent that you are going to be a big star, or I am going to help you become an actor, or get you a film, or produce a film, nothing of that sort was ever on the line. He pushed us to do it on our own. There was no ‘I will call so and so…’,” she recalled.
