Urjit Patel is the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. From 1998 to 2001, he worked as a consultant in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. On 4 September 2016, he became the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Urjit Patel is the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He was born on 28 October 1963. His sun sign is Scorpio. He grew up in Nairobi, Kenya. He has attended London School of Economics, University of Oxford, and Yale University. He holds a bachelor's degree, M Phil, and a doctorate degree.

From 1998 to 2001, Urjit Patel worked as a consultant in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.

Urjit Patel learned Hindi and Gujarati languages after he started working in India. 

In 2013, he was appointed as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India. He was given the leadership charge of Monetary Policy Reforms Committee.

The same year, he applied for an Indian passport, and it was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs with the recommendation of Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India.

On 4 September 2016, he became the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Urjit Patel has authored a book titled ‘Overdraft: Saving the Indian Saver.’

Presently, he lives in Mumbai with his family. 

As per some reports, Urjit Patel once declined the offer of leading the BRICS Bank in Shanghai as a Chairman.
