In 2013, he was part of Kapil Sharma’s team in ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’. He gained popularity for portraying the character of ‘Gutthi’.

Later, he was also seen in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ as ‘Doctor Gulati’. This character was also widely liked by the audience.

Controversy
In the year 2017, he had a scuffle with his close friend Kapil Sharma on a flight. Rumours were that Kapil Sharma humiliated Sunil in a drunken disposition. Later, Sunil made a Facebook post regarding the events and mentioned that they were still friends with each other, and dismissed the rumours.
However, after the incident, Sunil quit from the show and discontinued working with Kapil Sharma.
In 2018, he hosted his own comedy show called ‘Kanpur Waale Khuranas’ but it was not as successful.
