Pooja Gehlot is a freestyle wrestling champion. She has also played volleyball at national level competitions. In 2016, she won the gold medal in the 48 kg category in the Junior Wrestling Championship. In 2019, she became the second Indian woman to win a silver medal in the 51 kg weight category at the World Wrestling Championship.

Pooja Gehlot is a freestyle wrestling champion. She was born on 15 March 1997 in Narela, Delhi. She grew up in Haryana. Her sun sign is Pisces. She earned a BPD degree from Lovely Professional University. Pooja is unmarried. 

Her father, Vijendra Singh is a lab assistant in Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya. Her mother, Jagwanti Devi is a homemaker. She has two brothers, Ankit Gehlawat and Pushpendra Gehlawat, and a sister, Priyanka Gehlawat. 

She considers Yogeshwar Dutt as her inspiration.

Interesting facts about Pooja

She was interested in wrestling since childhood and started learning the basics of wrestling at the age of 6. She used to accompany her uncle Dharamveer Singh, who is a wrestler, to various wrestling matches.

According to Pooja, her father did not want her to take up wrestling as a career, because of which she started playing volleyball. She has been a national level volleyball player.

The success of Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat at the 2010 Commonwealth Games inspired Pooja and she decided to follow in their footsteps.

Junior Wrestling Championship

In the year 2016, she won the gold medal in the 48 kg category in the Junior Wrestling Championship held in Ranchi. In the same year, she got injured while wrestling which prevented her from practicing for a year.

In the year 2018, she won Rs 10 lakh and Bharat Kesari title in a freestyle wrestling competition organized by the Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department to commemorate the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

In the year 2017, she won the gold medal in the 51 kg category at the Asian Junior Championships held in Taiwan.

Setting a record

In 2019, she became the second Indian woman to win a silver medal in the 51 kg weight category at the World Wrestling Championship held in Budapest, Hungary. Geeta Phogat was the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the World Wrestling Championships in 2017.

She was seen endorsing ‘Guardian GNC’, a health supplement brand.
