LK Advani is an Indian politician and a senior BJP leader. He joined RSS in the year 1942. Advani served as the President of Bharatiya Janata Party for three consecutive terms. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha four times and to the Lok Sabha five times.

LK Advani is an Indian politician and a senior BJP leader. He was born on 8 November 1927 in Karachi, Pakistan. His sun sign is Scorpio. He completed his schooling from St Patrick High School, Karachi. He earned his degrees from DG National College, Hyderabad, and Government Law College, Mumbai. 

His father’s name was Kishanchand Advani, and his mother’s name was Gyani Devi. 

He was married to Kamla Advani. He is a father to two children, Jayant Advani and Pratibha Advani.

LK Advani’s full name is Lal Krishna Advani. 

LK Advani joined RSS in the year 1942. He was also associated with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, an Indian nationalist political party, founded by Shri Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

In the year 1970, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the first time. Advani served as the President of Bharatiya Jana Sangh from 1973 to 1977.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani played an important role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He became a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat in 1976 and completed his six-year tenure in 1982.

LK Advani’s role in the BJP

After the Emergency, Jan Sangh and some other political parties merged into the Janata Party. Some former members of the Jana Sangh left the Janata Party and formed a new political party, the BJP, in which Advani played a key role.

LK Advani served as the President of the BJP from 1986 to 1991. In 1991, Advani again became a member of the Lok Sabha.

LK Advani assumed the role of the Home Minister of India in 1999 and served his term for five years. 

From 2002 to 2004, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister of India.

Advani served as the President of Bharatiya Janata Party for three consecutive terms. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha four times and to the Lok Sabha five times.

LK Advani’s autobiography and recognition

LK Advani published an autobiography titled ‘My Country My Life’ in 2008.

In December 2009 Advani became a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Maintenance of Heritage Character and Development of Parliament House Complex.

In the year 2013, Advani resigned from all his positions. He was re-elected as a Lok Sabha member in 2014.

On 3rd February 2024, the Government of India announced that LK Advani will be conferred with India’s most prestigious honour Bharat Ratna.
