K Chandrashekar Rao is an Indian politician. In the year 2014, he became the first Chief Minister of Telangana. He was re-elected as the CM on 13 December 2018. Presently, he is representing the Gajwel Assembly constituency.

K Chandrashekar Rao is an Indian politician. He was born on 17 February 1954 in Chintamadaka, Telangana. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He did his schooling from Usmania University, Hyderabad. 

His father’s name was Raghvar Rao, and his mother’s name was Venkatamma. 

He is married to Shobha Rao. They are parents to a son, KT Rama Rao and a daughter, K Kavitha.

In the year 1983, K Chandrashekar Rao joined the Telugu Desam Party under the leadership of NT Rama Rao. Prior to that he had worked for Youth Congress Party of Medak district.

In the year 1983, he lost to A Madan Mohan in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.

From 1985 to 1999, K Chandrashekar won in four assembly elections from Siddipet. 

K Chandrashekar served as the Minister of Drought and Relief in the cabinet of NT Rama Rao from 1987 to 1988. 

In the year 1996, he served as the Transport Minister in the cabinet of Chandrababu Naidu.

He was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2000. 

K Chandrashekar resigned from Telugu Desam Party in the year 2001. During the same time, he demanded the formation of a separate Telangana state. 

In the year 2004, he contested as a TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) candidate from Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency and Siddipet State Assembly constituency and won both the constituencies.

From 2009 to 2014, he served as the Member of Parliament from Mahabubnagar constituency.

He played an important role in creating the separate state of Telangana in 2014. After the death of YS Reddy (then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh), he started a fast unto death on 29 November 2009. After fasting for 11 days, a new state was approved by the Government of India.

In the year 2014, K Chandrashekar became the first Chief Minister of Telangana. He was re-elected as the CM on 13 December 2018. 

For the restoration of 46,000 tanks and lakes, KCR launched Mission Kakatiya in the year 2014.

In June 2017, he launched Amma ODI and KCR Kit Scheme, a successful venture for pregnant women.

In the year 2014, he won the CNN IBN Indian Famous Choice Award. 

K Chandrashekar received the Agriculture Leadership Award in 2017. 

On 5 October 2022, the name of the party Telangana Rashtra Samithi was changed to Bharat Rashtra Samithi. 

Presently, he is representing the Gajwel Assembly constituency. He is also serving as the leader of the opposition in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
