Hemant Soren is an Indian politician and a member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He was honoured with the ‘Champions of Change Award’ by the President of India on 20 January 2020, in recognition of his exceptional work for Dumka and Barhait constituency in the year 2019.

Hemant Soren is an Indian politician. He was born on 10 August 1975 in Ramgarh. His sun sign is Leo. He did his schooling from Patna High School, Patna, Bihar. He earned a graduate degree from Birla Research Institute, Ranchi, Jharkhand. 

His father’s name is Shibu Soren, and his mother’s name is Roopi Sen. 

He is married to Kalpana Soren. They are parents to two sons.

Hemant Soren’s father Shibu Soren is a former Union Cabinet Minister and three-time Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Hemant Soren is an ardent follower of the 19th century tribal freedom fighter and leader Birsa Munda.

He contested in the Jharkhand Assembly elections in the year 2005, but he lost to Stephen Marandi.

On 24 June 2009, he was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Hemant Soren resigned from Rajya Sabha on 4 January 2010 after being elected MLA from Dumka constituency of Jharkhand.

After the demise of his brother in 2009, he was appointed as the working president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

Heman Soren was elected as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 11 September 2010.

At the age of 38, he became the 5th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 13 July 2013. 

On 23 December 2014, he was elected as MLA from Barhet assembly constituency.

After the BJP’s majority win in Jharkhand Assembly elections in 2014, he was elected as the Leader of Opposition on 8 January 2015.

Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 29 December 2019. 

He was honoured with the ‘Champions of Change Award’ by the President of India on 20 January 2020 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in recognition of his exceptional work for Dumka and Barhait constituency in the year 2019.

Hemant Soren resigned from the position of Chief Minister in January 2024. He was arrested for his alleged involvement in a land scam and money laundering case in Jharkhand.

After being released on bail, Hemant Soren took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the third time on 4 July 2024.
