In the year 1980, Gurdas began his musical journey with the Punjabi song ‘Dil Da Mamla Hai’.
Gurdas Maan very interested in music and mimicry since childhood.
It was during his college that he made his first stage performance with the song ‘Sajna Ve Sajna’ at an official function of the Punjab State Electricity Board. The government employees were impressed with his performance and gave him a job in their department.
Gurdas Maan was a good athlete and won the Bronze Model in the National Wrestling Championship in his college days.
He has a black belt in Judo.
He used to participate in youth festivals organized by various universities and won many awards for his singing and acting.
He wrote and directed the television show ‘POP Time’ for Doordarshan Delhi.
Listening to his debut song, the producer of Jalandhar TV station approached him for a television recording of the same song. Maan immediately agreed, following which the song aired on 31 December 1980 and became an instant hit.
In 2001, he met with an accident in a village near Rupnagar, Punjab, in which his driver and friend Tejpal passed away. Gurdas dedicated the song ‘Saavari’ to him.
