Droupadi Murmu is an Indian politician. In the year 2022, she became the first woman from ST category to be elected as the President of India in the presidential elections. She took her oath as the President on 25 July 2022.

Droupadi Murmu is an Indian politician. She is the current President of India. She was born on 20 June 1958 in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She did her schooling from KB HS Uparbeda School, Mayurbhanj. She earned her BA degree from Rama Devi Mahila College, Bhuvneshwar, Odisha. 

Her father’s name is Biranchi Narayan Tudu. She was married to Shyam Charan Murmu. She has a daughter named Itishri Murmu, who works in a bank.

Droupadi Murmu’s father and grandfather were village heads. 

Before joining politics, she worked as an assistant professor at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre, Rajgangpur. She also worked as a junior assistant in the Irrigation Department of Odisha from 1979 to 1983.

In the year 1997, she was elected as the District Councillor of Rajgangpur, Odisha. 

Droupadi Murmu’s political career

In 2000, Murmu was elected as a BJP minister from Rajgangpur constituency. She managed departments of transport, commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry. 

She served as District President of BJP in Mayurbhanj and State President of BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha from 2006 to 2009.

She received the Neelkanth Award for Best MLA by Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2007.

In May 2015, she became the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. 

In the year 2022, she became the first woman from ST category to be elected as the President of India in the presidential elections. She took her oath as the President on 25 July 2022. The then Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath of office to her in the Central Hall of Parliament.
