Her mother, Dr Nalini Dutta was a doctor and a government worker. Her brother, Rahul Dutta is also a doctor.

In 2005, she got engaged with Lieutenant Commander Sandeep Shergill but the couple did not marry.  

During her initial days in Mumbai, Divya nurtured a habit of making diary entries. Later, she wrote columns for Hindustan Times and Express Tribune.

In her younger days, Divya was often told that she looked like Manisha Koirala, because of this reason she received many offers for dance numbers. 

Divya considers Amitabh Bachchan as her inspiration.

In the year 2017, she launched her book ‘Me and Ma’, in which she shares her relationship with her mother, a doctor who single-handedly raised the family after the death of her father.

Juhi Chawla, Sonali Bendre and Rajat Kapoor are her closest friends in Bollywood.

In an interview, Divya shared that she had a crush on Amir Khan after watching him in the film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’.

In 1997 and 1998, Divya received the Ashirward Award, Divya Bharti Award, and Smita Patil Award. 

In 2005, she was given the award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2010, she received Big Punjabi Entertainment Award. The same year she also received an IIFA Award. 

In the year 2018, Divya was honoured with the prestigious National Film Award.
