Chitrangada Singh is a Bollywood actress and model. She was first seen in a music video of Gulzar. She made her debut with the film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ for which she received many awards.

Chitrangada’s full name is Chitrangada Singh Chahal. She is an actress, a model, dancer and a film director. She was born on 30 August 1976 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She completed her schooling from Sofia Girls School, Meerut. She earned a degree in Home Science from Lady Irwin College, Delhi. 

Her father, Niranjan Singh is a retired army officer. Her mother is a homemaker. She has a brother, Digvijay Singh, who is a professional golf player. Her sister’s name is Tina Singh. 

She was married to Jyoti Singh Randhawa for 13 years. The couple took a divorce in 2014. They have a son, Zorawar Randhawa.

Her hobbies include swimming, kickboxing, travelling, and golfing.

She likes to eat Japanese food, Mutton Biryani, Malai Tikka, fried eggs and bacon.

Interesting facts about Chitrangada

During her college days, Chitrangada wanted to become an air hostess. For this, she tried to enrol three times in different academies but failed every time. 

Her parents named her after 'Chitrangada', one of Arjuna's wives in the Hindu epic 'Mahabharata'.

Chitrangada is a trained Kathak dancer.

She started her career as a model.

She was first seen in the music video of Gulzar's song ‘Sunset Point’. She gained recognition after this project.

Chitrangada was seen in the music video ‘Koi Lauta De Woh Pyaare Din’ by film director Sudhir Mishra. After this, Sudhir Mishra offered her a role in the film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’.

In 2005, she worked in the Bollywood film ‘Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow’.

After a break, she made a comeback in Bollywood with the film ‘Sorry Bhai’ in 2008.

Chitrangada has worked in many Bollywood films like 'Desi Boyz', 'Anjaan', 'Gabbar Is Back', 'Munna Michael', and 'Baazaar'.

Chitrangada’s marriage

Chitrangada was friends with Jyoti Singh Randhawa since her school days. His father was a soldier in the same regiment as Chitrangda’s father. 

She married Jyoti Singh Randhawa in the year 2001 after dating him for almost five years. The couple took a divorce after a few years.

Chitrangada loves doing adventure sports like river rafting and sky diving.

Some of her popular movies are, Bob Biswas (2021), Inkaar (2013), Soorma (2018) and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz (2017). 

She debuted as a director with the film 'Soorma'.


Chitrangada was earlier offered the lead role in the Bollywood film ‘Krrish 3’, but she declined the offer due to the dates of Sudhir Mishra's other film coinciding with it.

Chitrangada has also been featured on the cover page of ‘Hello’ magazine.

Apart from acting, Chitrangada Singh has also been seen in many advertisements which include brands like Airtel, Parachute, Borges Olive Oil, Taj Mahal Tea, Titan Eye Plus, Dollar Missy.

She is also the brand ambassador of PETA.

Chitrangada is an animal lover and has a pet dog and a pet cat.

In 2006, she was awarded the ‘Bollywood Movie Award’ for Best Female Debut for the film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’.

She received the FICCI Young Women Achiever Award in the year 2009.

In the year 2020, she was honoured by the Indian Council for UN Relations for her outstanding contribution in the field of entertainment.

Chitrangada’s latest project

In March 2023, Chitrangada was last seen in the film ‘Gaslight’ with Sara Ali Khan and Vikrant Massey.
